Abstract: This study aims to develop an environmentally synthesized method for the preparation of multifunctional carbon nanoparticles (CNPs), and investigate its properties. Sucrose is used as the carbon precursor and phosphoric acid as the oxidizing agent, by one step high pressure microwave irradiation, and get large-scale water-soluble fluorescent carbon nanoparticles. The size of carbon nanoparticles, are about 5 nm, with good water-soluble and fluorescent blue fluorescent (quantum yield ~ 2.6%) . In this study, we have studied the fluorescent stability in salt solution. We also successfully demonstrated analytical applications by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometer (MALDI-TOF MS) use as matrice for the determination of melamine. Therefore, this study report a facile, economic and green one-step microwave synthesis route towards photoluminescent carbon nanoparticles. In addition, the as-prepared CNPs showed their great practical potentiality, which opens up further analytical applications.
